Missions of Hope International - Kenya

Extreme poverty cripples in tangible ways, like food scarcity, unemployment, and preventable diseases. Yet just as challenging are its intangible effects—depression, despair, fear, and a loss of self-worth, purpose, and hope. MOHI works in the urban slums of Nairobi (Mathare) and rural communities throughout Kenya to transform children, families, and communities. They restore and replicate hope, purpose, and joy, one household at a time.

The Creek works with the Korogocho Grogon center, which opened in February 2013. Due to tensions within the community, opening the center was difficult and took a long time. However, through MOHI's consultations with community members, we've seen a gradual change of attitude, leading to acceptance in the community and explosive growth of the center.

In 2014, MOHI purchased property to construct a permanent building with the capacity for 1,000 students. The anticipated new facility will also provide a meeting hall for Outreach Hope Church and potential space for skills training and other empowerment programs, as well as a high school.
